Community Safety Officer (CSO)

Town of Shellbrook Community Safety Officer (CSO)  

The Town of Shellbrook is proud to participate in the Community Safety Officer (CSO) program providing Shellbrook and neighboring communities with an option to enhance existing community safety services through employment of two CSO’s, Special Constable Bohmann and Special Constable Turner. Both of whom provide our community with an additional uniformed presence and ensure safety measures for our residents and nearby communities. 

The Town of Shellbrook is partnered up with Town of Blaine Lake, RM of Big River, Town of Big River, RM of Leask and Village of Shell Lake for the CSO program to ensure safer municipalities for our residents. 

What are a CSO’s duties?

  • Maintain high visibility of protective services throughout the participating neighboring communities including the Town of Shellbrook
  • Enforcement of Provincial statutes and municipal bylaws. 
  • Provide low-risk assistance to RCMP and neighboring Police agencies
  • Assist in the Town of Shellbrook EMO Committee and Fire and Rescue, when required. 

What Provincial Statutes are enforced?  

  • Town Bylaws
  • The Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act
  • The All-Terrain Vehicles Act 
  • The Animal Protection Act
  • The Cannibis Control (Saskatchewan) Act
  • The Municipalities Act
  • The Environmental Management and Protection Act
  • The Highways and Transportation Act
  • The Mental Health Services Act
  • The Snowmobile Act
  • The Summary Offences Procedure Act
  • The Tobacco and Vapour Products Act
  • The Traffic Safety Act
  • The Trespass to Property Act 

It is the intention of The Town of Shellbrook to utilize the CSO program to enforce municipal bylaws and provincial legislations. In addition, the CSO’s provide proactive policing through public educational opportunities, engagement with local businesses and creating relationships with residents to encourage compliance for bylaws. 


Infractions related to Provincial Statutes or Town of Shellbrook Municipal Bylaws can be reported by:
